It Gets Better

I was back on the local ponds again this morning and had another lovely fish, this one went to over 14lbs. Looks like I'm finally having some better luck! :-)

Stillwater Pike

Well... the river is now closed for the next three months so today I had a walk around some local ponds and had this chunky pike going to over 10lbs, seems to have a strange back end?

Last of the Season

The river season comes to an end this weekend so today I grabbed the chance of a last few hours on The Trent before it closes for 3 months. Conditions were very good but I lost 2 fish before finally getting one in the net, followed by another similar one soon after. Things went quiet so I decided to move to another spot and after a while I had something better putting a good bend in the rod! After a few powerful runs I was pleased to finally slip the net under a great looking fish. When I got home and looked at the photos I realised that this was the same fish I'd caught 2 days earlier, about a mile further along the river!

A Better Day

Two nice looking fish from The Trent today :-) The biggest going to 13lb and was caught on the first cast of the day!

A Trent Pike!

Something Different

I didn't fancy my chances of catching today. The Trent was very high and a Tetley brown color but I had a couple of hours free so I had a wander down with my lure rod, you never know!
I don't know where the Pike have disappeared to lately but they weren't interested again today, nothing until this lovely Chub grabbed my lure as I pulled it through a likely looking slack area. I thought at first I had a Jack on but was surprised and didn't complain when I saw the silvery bronze scales of a Chub hit the surface to save me from a blank.

A Hard Earned Jack

I was out on The Trent again today after another tough blank session on Sunday. The river was in a much better condition today, good color, nice and calm with a steady flow but the fishing was very hard with just this lively little Jack being landed. The Trent Pike don't seem very interested in playing ball. It's been a long hard winter for fishing on The Trent with everyone else I know also finding it hard. Things have to improve soon... ??? HA!

Things Might Be Starting To Improve!

First time out fishing today in a while and I fancied a few hours on The Trent but I wasn't sure if it had settled down enough yet after the recent long spell of bad weather, so I went to an area that had some gravel pits adjacent to it so I could drop onto those if the river was too high. I parked up and got my gear out and noticed a pike angler already set up on one of the pits, so I gave him a nod and stopped for a chat. He said he'd already had a couple of Jacks on ledgered dead baits... so hopefully things might be starting to improve. I gave it a good hour on the river, the level and color looked good but there was just a little bit too much flow to fish comfortably. Someone had been down recently and had a chuck around because there were quite a few snagged lures in the overhanging trees and bushes. I tried a few slacker areas but didn't feel very confident so I headed over for a walk around the gravel pits with my lures and I ended the morning with 4 nice Jacks, the biggest was probably around the 7lb mark. No record breakers, but it was nice to be out again getting a bit of a bend in the rod. Things might be starting to improve!

Snow, Ice and now the Flood

Not much fishing for me lately due to the bad weather. Just the odd hour here and there with not much to show for it. All my local stillwaters were still frozen at the weekend and The Trent is very high and fast. Hope things settle down and get back to normal soon!

The fishing has been difficult lately with just a few odd Jacks between the blank sessions so I was pleased today when this beauty gave me the run-around in the fast current of The Trent.

A Nice Change

After having a few blank sessions lately on my usual fishing areas, I decided to have a change and try somewhere different today, so I fished a stretch of The Trent I'd not fished before. The fishing was hard because of the very low, clear water and the gusty wind but I stuck it out and was pleased to end the morning with this beauty!

I did more socialising than fishing today. It seemed that every passer by, dog walker and jogger wanted to stop for a chat about the pollution coming down The Trent, although I did have a few nice fish between chats, two small Pike and a chunky Perch.

Trent Tail Walker

I had a couple of hours this morning on The Trent with my lure rod. Pike fishing conditions were terrible, bright sunshine with very low clear water meant the fishing was going to be a struggle, but I persevered with the lures and was eventually rewarded with this lively tail walking pike.

Two Trent Doubles

Today I had the afternoon pike fishing on The Trent which had quite a good flow on. After a couple of hours without any action I was beginning to think it was going to be another blank session, been weeks since I last caught a pike, then suddenly I had a fish on which was unstoppable. It tore line off the reel and ran out into the fast water. When I eventually got it near the net it went crazy again trying to get in the marginal snags. I was relieved when it finally rolled into the landing net. My first pike in weeks and it was a nice fat beauty in perfect condition!

The second pike I'm sure didn't know it was hooked; not really doing much until it got near the net then it went mad. Another perfect fish.

I also managed a Jack, like busses, no pike for weeks, and then 3 in an afternoon!

Trent Perch

I had a few hours this evening on The Trent with my lure rod and was surprised to see the river looking good despite all the recent rain that's gone into it. After a quiet start my lure eventually hit into something but it didn't feel quite right. It turned out to be a pike of around 8lb but it was foul hooked in the tail! That was the only action from the pike for the evening but the perch were on the attack and I ended the evening with three of them, topped off by this beauty!

A1 Bream

I've just got back from two days at The A1 Gravel Pits. Unfortunately the Carp didn't want to play, I don't think much else was caught either while I was there but I was woken up on both nights by Bream giving jerky blips on the alarms to interrupt my beauty sleep.

Summer Jack Pike

This evening I had a couple of enjoyable hours fishing a neglected part of The Trent that I've not fished since I was a young lad! Well, it has been neglected for years but the bailiff (John Wood) has recently done a great job strimming back the nettles and brambles to make it accessible again so I had a wander along with a couple of lures and ended the evening with a nice Jack.

Evening Lure Fishing

I went back to The Trent again this evening for a few hours with my lure rod until it got dark and had some good action from The Trent Perch! I ended the evening with six of them, I didn't get any action from The Pike until the light started fading, I then landed a small one but lost another bigger one of around 10lb... Maybe next time!

First Fish of the Season

Unfortunately I've had very little free time for fishing lately, but this evening I went down to The Trent with my lure/spinning gear for a couple of hours until it got dark and was soon into my first fish of the new season - a small perch, followed by a couple of small but welcome pike. Ummmmm I think I'll try a few more of these short evening sessions.

Strelley Pond

I had a quick 3 hour session today at Oldmoor Pond, better known as Strelley Pond. Things started well when the buzzer screamed out after only a few minutes of casting out, resulting in a nice common carp. Then the rain came down but two more fish were landed before I went home wet through and cold! :-)
